The Mets rallied for five runs in the eighth inning Friday night as New York extended its win streak to five games with a 7-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Starter Jonathon Niese, called up from AAA Buffalo to fill in for injured-and-or-benched Oliver Perez, gave his team a chance to win with six solid innings, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out five. He didn’t walk a single batter, but lost his no-hitter immediately when Nyjer Morgan led off the game with a line-drive infield to third to make it 7,510 New York Mets games without a no-no. Carlos Delgado capped a five RBI night with a three-run homer in the eighth that moved him past Mickey Mantle for 48th place on the career runs batted in list with 1,512 RBIs.
