7,515: Prado’s 12th inning homer lifts Braves over Mets

Close, but no cigar

Martin Prado’s homer in the top of the 12th inning off Ken Takahashi Wednesday afternoon erased three Mets’ comebacks and lifted the Atlanta Braves to an 8-7 win over New York.

The loss put a damper on a big day by Fernando Tatis, who went 3-for-5 tagged Braves’ starter Buddy Carlyle for a grand slam in the second inning.

Mets starter Jonathon Niese lasted 4 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and two walks. He relinquished the no-hitter in the first inning when Chipper Jones hit an RBI double to center, advancing our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,515 games without a New York Mets no-no.

The Mets head west to begin a four-game series with the San Francisco Giants late Thursday night.
