Johan Santana pitched seven brilliant innings leading the New York Mets to a 5-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Santana (6-2, 1.50) outdueled Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-2, 10.32), totally shutting down two of the Sox’ hottest hitters, Jason Bay and Kevin Youkilis. Gary Sheffield homered for the Mets, his 502nd career dinger.
Jacoby Ellsbury singled to lead off the first inning to drive up the no no-hitter count to 7,523.
