Tim Redding threw seven innings to give the Mets’ bullpen some needed rest Monday night as New York topped the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 at Citi Field.
Redding looked sharp and gave up four runs on five hits, but one of those was a two-run homer and another was a solo shot. He lost his no-hitter in the third inning when Khalil Greene led off with a single, advancing our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,550 New York Mets games without a no-no.
Alex Cora went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, and Daniel Murphy hit a solo home run in the fifth. Ryan Church, Omir Santos, and Luis Castillo also drove in Mets runs.
The Mets gained a half-game on the idle Phillies, moving to within 1 1/2 games of first in the N.L. East.
