Mets No Hitter: The Next Generation?

St. Lucie Mets logoOur friend Dave Mackey, who was tracking the Mets’ futility in no-hitters before this site and continues the count on his blog, passed along this item from that provides some hope that we might eventually move past updating the tally some years down the road.

St. Lucie Mets righthander Tim Stronach took a no-hitter into the ninth inning against the Palm Beach Cardinals during a 10-0 Florida State League victory on Wednesday.

Perhaps if the 23-year-old can make it up to the parent club, we can end this 47-year-old streak once and for all.

For the record, the Mets’ farm clubs have thrown some no-nos, as chronicled (as complete as possible) on our Mets minor league/spring training no-hitters page.

The St. Lucie Mets have had five, with at least two of them lasting nine innings (doubleheader games can last only seven inngs).
