Mets starter Fernando Nieve was forced out of the game in the second inning Sunday as injuries continued to plague the team during a 7-1 loss in Atlanta.
Nieve left with a no-hitter still alive – only the 12th time in Mets franchise history that’s happened. We’ve chronicled it and the 11 others in this post.
Two batters into Tim Redding’s relief appearance, Yunel Escobar blasted a homer to kill the no-hitter and give the Braves their first run making it 7,573 games without a no-no. Redding pitched three innings, yielding five runs (two of them earned) on four hits and three walks.
