John Lannan, who stifled the Mets’ offense last September when I went to Washington to catch a Mets-Nats game and also pitched a complete game against New York on June 6, did it again Tuesday night with a 4-0 shutout at Nationals Park.
Lannan scattered seven hits without walking a single batter over nine innings.
Mets starter Oliver Perez held Washington scoreless for the first three innings, but gave up a pair of runs in the fourth inning and another two runs in the fifth. He lost his no-hitter in the first inning when Ryan Zimmerman singled left, making it 7,575 New York Mets games without a no-no.
Perez gave up only four hits but was once again haunted by control problems, walking six batters for four earned runs
