7,578: Niese gives solid start as Mets bats come alive

The Mets exploded for 10 runs and Jon Niese threw seven innings of four-hit ball Saturday night as New York topped the Astros 10-3 at Minute Maid Park.

Niese allowed just one earned run on four hits and two walks over 7 innings of work, striking out three. He lost his no-hitter on Ivan Rodriguez’s first-inning RBI single, advancing our count to 7,578 New York Mets games without a no-no.

The Mets had multi-hit games from Angel Pagan, Luis Castillo, Daniel Murphy, Omir Santos and Jeff Francoeur, who had four RBIs including a -inning three-run homer. Wright and Santos also hit roundtrippers.
