7,597: Pagan’s leadoff homer all Mets need

Good to be home

Bobby Parnell pitched six solid innings and Angel Pagan’s leadoff homer provided the winning run as the Mets topped the Giants 3-0.

Parnell lost his no-hitter in the first inning on a Pablo Sandoval single, advancing our count to 7,597 New York Mets games without a no-no. He allowed just three hits and no walks while striking out seven.

The game featured just nine hits, with the Giants limited to four and the Mets held to five.

Luis Castillo scored the Mets’ second and third runs, on a Jeff Francoeur in fourth and on a Gary Sheffield sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Brian Stokes, Pedro Feliciano and Francisco Rodriguez completed the shutout for Parnell, who got the win in his second start of his career.

Throwback night featured the Mets wearing 1905 New York Giants uniforms, although the color blue was likely substituted for the Giants’ black.
