Daniel Murphy’s ninth-inning walk-off single lifted the New York Mets to a 3-2 win over the San Francisco Giants at Citi Field Sunday.
The Mets’ other two runs came courtesy of Luis Castillo, who launched a ball into the second deck in left field in the fifth inning to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.
Mets starter Mike Pelfrey took a no-hitter into the fourth inning until Fred Lewis hit a two-out double to left, advancing our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,599 New York Mets games without a no-hitter. It was the second day in a row that Mets’ pitchers flirted with the no-no!
Pelfrey looked sharp, giving up just two earned runs on five hits and a walk over 7 1/3 innings while striking out five batters.
Mets manager Jerry Manuel went to the bullpen in the eighth after Eugenio Velez and Randy Winn hit back-to-back doubles to tie the game at 2.
