7,604: Pelfrey, bullpen help Mets top Phillies

Good outing, Pelf

Mike Pelfrey held the Phillies to two runs and the bullpen finished the job Friday night for a 4-2 win at Citi Field.

Jeff Francoeur went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, and Angel Pagan, Luis Castillo and Daniel Murphy all had 2-for-4 nights.

Pelfrey lost his no-hitter in the first inning on a Chase Utley single, advancing our count to 7,604 New York Mets games without a no-hitter. He gave up just six hits and two walks during his six innings, striking out five.

Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez kept things “interesting” in the ninth by allowing a one-out Jimmy Rollins double and a Shane Victorino single, but he struck out Utley and Ryan Howard to close the door for the save.
