Bobby Parnell threw seven solid strong innings of shutout ball and the Mets rallied for five runs in the eighth inning Friday night for a 6-2 win over the Chicago Cubs at Citi Field.
Parnell lost his no-hitter in the second inning when Jeff Baker drove an up-the-middle liner right through the wickets, advancing our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,617 New York Mets games without a no-no. It was one of only five hits that Parnell yielded in his start.
Cory Sullivan had a 2-for-2 night with a second-inning solo blast into the right-field Pepsi Porch. He also contributed in the field, stealing a hit from Kosuke Fukudome in the fifth with a diving catch on a slice to left.
