7,657: Davis has 2-for-4 debut as Mets top Cubs 6-1

Nice win

Angel Pagan’s seventh-inning two-run homer broke a 1-1 tie and led the New York Mets to a 6-1 win over the Chicago Cubs at Citi Field.

Pagan’s shot was part of a five-run seventh inning that featured the debut of first-baseman Ike Davis, who singled home Jason Bay as part of a 2-for-4 outing.

Starter Jonathon Niese went 5 2/3 innings, giving up just an unearned run on eight hits and three walks while striking out seven. He lost his no-hitter in the first inning on a Jeff Baker single, advancing our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,657 games without a no-no.

Fernando Nieve got the win in relief.
