The Mets could manage just a single hit in the first five innings Wednesday in a 9-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Citi Field.
That one hit was a Rod Barajas homer, but the Cubs managed single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings off Mets’ starter Oliver Perez before Alfonso Soriano blew the game open with a two-run homer off Manny Acosta in the seventh.
Perez lost his no-hitter in the first inning on a Derek Lee single, advancing our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,659 New York Mets games without a no-no.
Yankees starter Phil Hughes, on the other hand, took a no-hitter into the eighth inning before losing it on a comebacker that he lost sight of.
