7,675: Giants top Mets 6-5, end home win streak

Home win streak ends

The Giants’ Aaron Rowand hit an eighth-inning two-run homer off Jenrry Mejía Sunday to give San Francisco a 6-5 victory, handing the Mets their first home loss since April 21.

Mets starter Oliver Perez lost his no-hitter in the second inning when Nate Schierholtz blooped a single into left center field, advancing our NonoHitters.com count to 7,675 New York Mets games without a no-no.

But hits were the least of Ollie’s problems. Perez walked seven batters and hit another one over 3 1/3 innings before being pulled, and was responsible for four runs, three of them earned.

Raul Valdes gave the Mets a chance with 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief and the Mets chipped away at the Giants and entered the eighth inning with a 5-4 lead.

The last time the Mets lost at Citi Field was an April 21 9-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs.
