Mike Pelfrey threw eight strong innings Tuesday to lead the New York Mets to a 4-2 win over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.
Pelfrey lost his no-hitter on a second-inning Nick Hundley single (second time in a row Hundley’s been a stinker) for the 7,697th New York Mets game with no no-no. Pelfrey gave up just a single run on four hits and two walks while striking out eight.
Jason Bay’s first-inning single off Wade LeBlanc moved the Padres’ no no-hitter count to 6,596 games. The Padres have been at it since 1969, while the Mets have been no-no-less since ’62.
David Wright went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and an RBI single, and Ike Davis added a two-run home run.
