Angel Pagan knocked in four runs on four hits Tuesday night to lead the New York Mets to a 14-6 win over the Detroit Tigers at Citi Field.
David Wright was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Ike Davis was 3-for-6 with 3 RBIs.
Mets’ starter Jonathon Niese held onto his no-hitter through the top of the third inning, a 90-minute rain delay and a marathon bottom of the third in which the Mets scored eight runs, but he couldn’t maintain it when he returned for the fourth.
He gave up a one-out single to Miguel Cabrera to kill the no-no (the 7,714th time a Mets pitcher has added to our dubious streak) and then gave up a Brennan Boesch homer.
Niese lasted 4 2/3 innings, giving up seven earned runs on six hits and three walks. Fernando Nieve recorded the win with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless one-hit, one-walk ball.
