R.A. Dickey threw eight innings of four-hit shutout ball and Jose Reyes was just a double short of the cycle Wednesday as the New York Mets topped the Detroit Tigers 5-0 at Citi Field.
Dickey won for the sixth time in his last six starts, walking two and striking out four in his brilliant start. He lost his no-hitter in the first inning on a Magglio Ordonez single, advancing our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,715 New York Mets games with no no-no.
Reyes, who led off the game with a triple but was left stranded, singled in the third and scored on a David Wright double. Reyes added a solo homer in the fifth.
Pinch hitter Jesus Feliciano earned his first Major League RBI with a seventh-inning ground-out, and Ike Davis drove in the Mets’ other two runs that inning with a clutch slow-rolling single to right.
With the win, the Mets improved to 11 games over .500.
