7,442: Mets win fourth straight behind strong Pelfrey outing

The Mets jumped on the scoreboard early and Mike Pelfrey shut down the Pittsburgh Pirates for seven innings to lead the Mets to a 2-1 victory – the team’s fourth straight.

New York scored its first run on consecutive singles by Jose Reyes, Argenis Reyes and David Wright, with Wright’s RBI single extending his hitting streak to 10 games. A wild pitch to Carlos Delgado scored Argenis Reyes to make it 2-0.

Pelfrey lost his no-hitter in the second inning when he gave up a single to Adam LaRoche, making it 7,442 Mets games without a no-hitter. He scattered just six more hits and walked none during his start to improve to 11-8 on the season.

Duaner Sanchez gave up a solo homer to Jack Wilson in the eighth, but Pedro Feliciano was able to finish up the inning. Aaron Heilman got his third save, yielding just a walk in the ninth.
