7,487: Hernandez’s strong start, Castillo’s big night lift Mets

Livan livens up the Mets

The New York Mets got a strong start from newcomer Livan Hernandez and a 4-for-4 day from Luis Castillo Saturday night to beat the Florida Marlins 8-4.

Jose Reyes went 2-for-5 with 3 RBIs, doubling home Castillo in the third inning and sending him home again in the fifth with a homer. Castillo scored a third time in the eighth on a David Wright single.

Carlos Delgado also had a big night, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Hernandez lasted 6 2/3 innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four. He lost his no-no in the second inning when the Marlins’ Dan Uggla led off with a single, making it 7,487 New York Mets games without a no-hitter.

I’d write more but I couldn’t actually watch the game on the MLB Extra Innings package thanks to the stupid Fox network exclusivity deal for games airing before 7 p.m. Apparently when the Marlins moved the start time due to the post-game Flo Rida concert, Extra Innings just decided to bag it.
