7,512: Mets complete sweep of Pirates for 7 in a row

Lucky 7

The Mets scored eight runs to complete a sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates at Citi Field Sunday for an 8-4 win that extends their streak to seven games.

Mets starter Livan Hernandez surrendered a leadoff single to Nyjer Morgan to instantly scrap our chance for the first New York Mets no-hitter and advance our NoNoHitters.com county to 7,512 games. But despite giving the Pirates an early 2-0 lead, he settled in for a solid start, yielding two runs on seven hits and four walks over six innings. Hernandez struck out five.

Jose Reyes, Luis Castillo and Omir Santos all had multiple hit days, and Castillo and Carlos Beltran each drove in a pair of runs.

Morgan’s leadoff single off Hernandez marked the 926th time a potential Mets no-hitters was broken up by a leadoff hit, and the eighth time it has happened this year. (See our No-hitters killed by first at bat for stats on these.)
