7,540: Mets lose in extra innings again as Ibanez homers off Takahashi

Extra innings not kind

Raul Ibanez blasted a 10th-inning three-run homer off Ken Takahashi as the Philadelphia Phillies topped the New York Mets 6-3 Thursday night at a foggy Citi Field.

The loss, the first-place Phils’ second come-from-behind victory in as many nights, puts the Mets four games back in the N.L. East as they head into a weekend series against the New York Yankees.

The Mets wasted a strong start from Tim Redding, who threw seven innings while giving up three runs on six hits and no walks. Redding gave up a third-inning single to Pedro Feliz to advance our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,540 New York Mets game without a no-hitter.

All three Mets runs were a Luis Castillo-Carlos Beltran production.

In the first, Castillo led off with a double and Beltran drove him home on a ground out. In the third, Castillo hit a one-out single and Beltran doubled him home. In the fifth, Castillo again led off the inning with a double, and Beltran knocked him in on a sacrifice fly.
