The Phillies’ Ryan Howard tagged Bobby Parnell for two homers Monday afternoon as the Mets lost the final game of a four-game series at Citi Field 6-2.
Howard’s first homer, a three-run blast in the first, advanced our NoNoHitters.com count up to 7,607 New York Mets games without a no-no. The second, a two-run blast, came in the third inning.
The Mets were able to generate a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first, and for the second straight game leadoff hitter Angel Pagan crossed the plate without the ball leaving the park.
This time, Chase Utley dropped a routine fly ball and then threw it away while trying to get Pagan at second, handing Pagan the other two bases. Gary Sheffield tripled and Fernando Tatis sacrificed him in on a fly ball to right for the Mets’ second run.
MORE INJURIES: Jerry Manuel in his post-game news conference aired on SNY said Johan Santana won’t pitch tomorrow due to a nagging elbow problem, one that’s been bothering him since about the All-Star break. Nelson Figueroa gets Tuesday’s start in his place.
And Jeff Francoeur is day-to-day after sitting out Monday with a torn ligament in his left thumb.
Could this get any worse?
