Nelson Figueroa struck out 10 and helped his cause with an RBI single Sunday as the New York Mets topped the Chicago Cubs 4-1 at Wrigley Field.
Figueroa allowed his only run in the first. After walking Milton Bradley, Figueroa gave up a single to Derrek Lee to advance our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,613 New York Mets games without a no-no. Aramis Ramirez then singled to left-center to make it 1-0 Cubs.
The Mets took the lead with two runs in the third and expanded their lead in the fourth.
In the third, Angel Pagan and Luis Castillo hit back-to-back singles and they advanced into scoring position on an errant throw by Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano. Daniel Murphy knocked them both in with a singled to center.
In the fourth, Brian Schneider singled, then scored on an Anderson Hernandez triple. Figueroa followed with a single to score Hernandez and make it 4-1.
Figueroa gave up just six hits and walked two during his 7 innings of work, getting pulled in the eighth after an infield single that looked like Luis Castillo caught cleanly.
