7,618: Homers help Cubs top Mets

Couldn’t make it 3

The Cubs used a pair of Derrek Lee homers and a two-run shot by Aramis Ramirez to top the Mets 5-3 Saturday at Citi Field.

Mets starter Nelson Figueroa lost his no-hitter in the second inning on a Jeff Baker single, bumping our NoNoHitters.com count up to 7,618 New York Mets games without a no-hitter. The two-run shots in the fourth and fifth by Ramirez and Lee were the only runs Figueroa yielded. He struck out eight batters while scattering a total of seven hits and a pair of walks.

Cory Sullivan had another solo shot in the second inning, and he scored the Mets second run in the fourth on an Anderson Hernandez single.

David Wright brought the Mets within one in seventh with a sacrifice fly to score Fernando Tatis, but Derrik Lee reestablished the Cubs’ two-run lead with a solo homer in eighth.

The Mets loaded the bases in the eighth, but Angel Pagan flied out to end the inning.
