7,622: Marlins jump on Parnell early, beat Mets 13-4

Yuck

Bobby Parnell got into some first-inning trouble and gave up three runs Thursday night as the Florida Marlins topped the New York Mets 13-4 at Citi Field.

Parnell lost his no-hitter on Chris Coughlan’s leadoff double, advancing our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,622 New York Mets games without a no-hitter. That gives Parnell his first visit to our No-hitters killed by first at bat page, as Coughlan’s double marked the 1,745th Mets game that has started with a leadoff hit by the Mets’ opponent.

After the double, Nick Johnson and walked and the bases filled up on Anderson Hernandez’s fielding error. A couple of base-loaded walks and a single later, it was 3-0 Marlins.

The Marlins added a run in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings, but the Mets were able to pull within two runs in the fifth.

The Marlins put it out of reach in the seventh by jumping on Sean Green and Pedro Feliciano for three runs, then got four off Lance Broadway in the eighth.
