Nelson Figueroa pitched six strong innings, but the Mets couldn’t give him much run support Monday as the Washington Nationals topped New York 2-1 in the nation’s capital.
Figueroa lost his no-no when Nationals’ leadoff hitter Justin Maxwell doubled past third-baseman David Wright for a hit that probably should have been ruled an error. But it wasn’t, and our NoNoHitters.com count jumped to 7,639 New York Games without a no-hitter and inched closer to finishing our 48th year without accomplishing the rare baseball feat. (Visit our No-hitters killed by first at bat page for stats on early no-no exits.)
Fernando Tatis (2-for-4) singled home Carlos Beltran for the Mets only run in the sixth inning.
