Ryan Ludwick tagged Ryota Igarashi for an eight-inning two-run homer Sunday night to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-3 win over the New York Mets at Busch Stadium.
That and Colby Rasmus’ three-run homer in the fifth marked all the Cardinals five runs, and New York also got its runs on a single swing of the bat.
Angel Pagan in the second hit a bases-loaded single to score Frank Catalanotto and Jeff Francoeur, and Gary Matthews Jr. also scored after pitcher Adam Wainwright fielded a wide throw home and sent it soaring past first base.
Mets starter John Maine lost his no-hitter in the first inning on Ludwick’s double, driving our NoNoHitters.com count up to 7,656 games.
The Mets needed him to put in some innings after Saturday’s 20-inning marathon, but he gave just five, yielding three runs on six hits and four walks.
Wainwright, on the other hand, threw a complete game.
