It took six innings, but the Mets finally gave Johan Santana some run support as he threw 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball to lead New York to a 5-2 win over the Chicago Cubs at Citi Field.
It was starting to look like the bullpen might squander the lead in the eighth, but Francisco Rodriguez came in for a five-out save to close out the game.
Santana yielded eight hits, walked none and struck out five during his outing. He lost his no-hitter on a second-inning double by Marlon Byrd, advancing our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,660 New York Mets games without a no-no.
Rookie Ike Davis had a 3-for-4 night, and a David Wright double and singles by Jeff Francoeur and Rod Barajas each knocked in single runs.
