7,663: Mets take series from Braves with rain-shortened win

One is enough

Jose Reyes manufactured a first-inning run to lead the New York Mets to a rain-shortened 1-0 win over the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field.

After reaching base on a bloop single, Reyes stole second and then headed toward third on a Jason Bay grounder to third. Chipper Jones fielded the ball nicely but muffed the throw to first, and Reyes came all the way home.

Mike Pelfrey extended his scoreless inning streak to 24, but it took him 106 pitches to get through those five innings. He gave up five hits and five walks while striking out three.

Pelfrey lost his no-hitter in the first inning on a Brian McCann double, moving our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,663 New York Mets games with no no-no.

The downpour started just as the sixth inning began, and Raul Valdes threw a single strike before the umpires called for the tarp.
