7,754: Santana takes no-no into 6th, Mets win 1-0

Close, no cigar

Johan Santana took a Mets no-hitter into the sixth inning Saturday night as New York topped the Philadelphia Phillies 1-0 at Citizens Bank Park.

Santana lost his no-no on a Placido Polanco single, advancing our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,754 New York Mets games with no such rare feat.

His extended outing allowed us to update our Lost Mets no-hitters that reached at least the fifth inning page for the first time since April 20, when Mike Pelfrey took one against the Chicago Cubs into the fifth. That day, Mike Fontenot poked a one-out sinker the opposite way into left for a line single that ended his bid.

Jeff Francoeur scored the game’s only run by poking an opposite field homer over the right field fence in the seventh inning.

Santana wound up yielding five hits over 7 1/3 innings, and Francisco Rodriguez recorded a 5-out save.
